Platform admin

Most of the app is run one site at a time. The admin area is the one place that looks across the whole installation: it's where sites are created, people are invited and merged, and scanning problems are reviewed. In a small installation, the person who set the app up is usually its only global admin.

Who can do what

Global admin. Opens every site. At a site they aren't a member of, they act as an owner, including the settings, app users and activity log. At a site they are a member of, their site role applies instead. They are also the only people who can use the admin area.

Support. A read-only role. Support staff can open every site they aren't a member of and look at inventory, cases, visits, stats, recalls and the activity log, but can't change anything there. At a site they are a member of, their site role applies instead. They have no access to the admin area. See Roles and permissions for the site roles.

Reaching the admin area

If you are a global admin, you'll see a way in from several places:

  • On your dashboard, Admin dashboard at the bottom of the page.
  • In the site menu, Global admin (shown as Global Admin on larger screens), and Manage sites in the site list.

Opening it takes you to Sites. The left sidebar then has:

  • Sites: create and archive sites, plus the demo site, mail and analytics panels. See Sites and users and Emails and the demo site.
  • Users: everyone with an account. See Sites and users.
  • Scan reports: problems sent from the scanner. See Scan reports.
  • Audit Log: a log of activity across all sites, which you can filter by date, action and type.

Back to app at the top of the sidebar returns you to your dashboard.

If you aren't a global admin, going to the admin address just sends you to your dashboard.

Setting someone's platform role

A global admin sets another person's platform role on their page under Users, in the Global role list: User, Support (read-only) or Global admin. You can't change your own role, or disable your own account, which stops you locking yourself out.
