Install and work offline

You can add Road2IR Inventory to your home screen so it opens like a normal app, full screen and without browser bars.

Add it to your home screen

iPhone and iPad. Use Safari. Tap the Share icon, then Add to Home Screen. Other iPhone browsers can't install apps, so the app only shows these steps in Safari.

Android. In Chrome or a similar browser, the app shows an Install Road2IR banner. Tap Install. If you tap Dismiss, the banner comes back after 14 days. You can also use your browser's own menu.

Computer. The app doesn't show a banner on computers. Some browsers, such as Chrome and Edge, offer to install it from their address bar or menu.

Once it's installed, the banner stops appearing.

What works offline

Offline support is built around scanning stock in.

TaskWithout a connection
Scan stock inWorks. Scans are saved on your device and sent later
Count stock in an auditScans are saved on your device and sent later. You can't finish counting until everything has synced
Scan stock outDoesn't work. The app warns you instead of recording it
Scan items into a caseDoesn't work
Scan items into a visitVisit mode isn't available yet
Reload or open a new pageDoesn't work. You see the "You're offline" page

Stock out and case scans need a connection, because the app picks which unit to use from live stock.

How stock-in works offline

While you're online, the scanner keeps a copy of your site's product list on your device. When you scan offline, it looks the code up in that copy. A code that isn't in the copy can't be recognized until you're back online.

When you're offline:

  • A bar reads You're offline. New scans will sync when you reconnect.
  • The scanner shows Offline · scans stay on this phone in stock-in mode. In other modes it shows Offline · reconnect to record scans.
  • Saved scans are marked Queued.

When you reconnect, queued scans send by themselves the next time you open Scan. A scan that didn't go through shows Didn't sync with a Retry button.

First-use downloads

Two pieces are downloaded once, then reused.

  • The barcode reader. A small download of about 1 MB, fetched in the background when the app first loads. If it didn't finish on a weak connection, it downloads the first time you scan.
  • The label reader. Only if your site has label reading on (a scanning setting). It's about 7 MB and is fetched the first time you read a label. The scanner shows Getting label reader ready… with a percentage. Scanning carries on meanwhile. After that, label reading works offline. If the first-ever read happens offline, the label can't be read and you fill in the details by hand.
