Barcodes

Backfill barcodes lets you link barcodes to products before any stock arrives. When the barcode is first scanned later, the app already knows what it is. No stock is added here.

Who can: Owner, Admin, Member, Inventory manager

Where: Settings › Backfill barcodes

This page only exists when scanning is on. With scanning off it isn't listed, and opening its address shows a not-found page. Turn scanning on under Scanning settings.

  1. Pick a product from the list on the left. The filters are No barcode yet, Has barcodes and All, and it opens on No barcode yet. Search narrows the list.
  2. Scan its barcode with the camera on the right.
  3. A message confirms the link. Details such as brand, REF or vendor that the product is missing may be filled in from the FDA device database, or from Health Canada when the FDA has no match. If a value differs from what you have, you are asked whether to update it.

If the barcode is already linked to a different product, you are asked whether to reassign it to the product you picked. If it is already on this product, you are told so.

Box sizes

When a barcode is printed on a box of several units, set how many. With a product picked, the Box sizes card lists each of its barcodes with a Box of field. Enter a whole number from 1 to 1000 and choose Save. 1 means a single item.

What a scan of a box actually does depends on a scanning setting. See Box barcodes and Repeat scans, serials and boxes.
